To kick things off in 2020, we targeted the organizers of COP26, which took place in Glasgow, Scotland. We reached out quite early to the Presidency, in August 2020, with our campaign ask, and had meetings with different members of the UK Cabinet Office, but were disappointed to not get a direct response to our demands from the catering and events department.
Nevertheless, we held several virtual events in the lead-up highlighting different contexts and rationales for necessary food systems transformation, and acquired funding to send several campaigners, predominantly from the global South, to the conference.
While there was certainly improvement in the catering offerings compared to previous conferences (check out our full statement on Instagram, also in PDF format), we wanted to see heightened ambition and climate-consciousness. The work continues.
